Tourists in Samui and Phangan warned - box jellyfish that can kill in minutes have arrived

KOH SAMUI: -- A species of deadly box jellyfish that can kill in as little as two minutes have been located on Lamai Beach in Samui.

 

Now a hospital on the neighboring island of Koh Phangan has issued a warning to tourists to stay out of the sea at night.

 

The box jellyfish known in Thai as "Maeng kaphun lai sai ( jellyfish with many lines) is a regular visitor to the gulf in July and August.

 

The arrival of one in Lamai is a warning that they are coming said Koh Phangan hospital on their Facebook page yesterday.

 

They warned that the sting from the creatures can kill a human being in between 2 and ten minutes.

 

They advised operators in the area to stock up on vinegar and warn tourists about the threat and tell visitors to stay out of the sea at night, said Sanook.
