Chiang Mai News reported that border crossings between the province and Myanmar were being reviewed.

Questions have been raised over the efficiency and economic need for some of the crossings.

The status of one in particular - the Lak Teng crossing - is being reviewed.

Studies have been made over the last twenty years of cross border trade with some crossings closed and then re-opened as economic times changed.

Risks of border checkpoints being used for drug smuggling were also raised with government ministries.

Government and the economic sector in consultation with local groups were set to review what the status of several crossings in five districts should be.
