Mayor calls on Pattaya to give up plastic, foam


PATTAYA:--Pattaya’s mayor called on residents to make New Year’s resolutions to give up plastic bags and do a better job recycling.


Sonthaya Kunplome and Samart Thiengpoonwong, director of the Chonburi Cultural Office joined city and tourism officials at the Jan. 5 opening of the Naklua Walk & Eat with a call to abstain from giving out or accepting plastic bags and foam containers, as well as separate trash for disposal and recycling.


The call echoed government policy, which was highlighted by a Jan. 9 kickoff of a new campaign to reduce waste at the household level.


Pattaya’s kickoff took place Wednesday at Chonglom Temple in Naklua.
